DISTRIBUTION. — Collected from New Caledonia and Tonga (Fig. 70), in 85-433 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell morphology. Length 6 mm, width 4 mm (largest specimen examined). Shell internal, fragile, oval, with convex sides (Fig. 63G). Only 1 whorl visible, forming the entire shell. Anterior end of the shell rounded. Umbilicus closed. Aperture as long as the shell, wide anteriorly, narrowing abruptly at about 5/6 of its length. Apex rounded, umbilicate. Aperture lip conspicuously rising from the left side, forming a short wing posteriorly that rises above the apex. Columellar margin thickened. Sculpture of a number of punctuated spiral grooves. The punctuations are large, oval, and fused together with adjacent ones within each groove. The grooves are separated by gaps that are about the same width as the grooves. Occasionally narrower grooves are intercalated. Colour uniformly dirty white.
Anatomy. Unknown. All shells collected lacked soft parts.
REMARKS. — The shell morphology of Philine sp. 4 is similar to that of Philine sp. 2 , but the grooves of the sculpture are much smaller in Philine sp. 4 . Since there is no anatomical information available for this species it remains unnamed.
