TYPE LOCALITY AND HABITAT: of T. heliconiae : intercepted in quarantine at New York, USA, on imported Heliconia [Plantae: Heliconiaceae ] of unknown origin; of T. mathewsoni : Veracruz, Mexico, in nasal cavity of Amazilia candida (Animalia: Trochilidae ); of R. phaethornis: Mosqueiro Ferry, Marituba , Pará, Brazil, on Phaethornis superciliosus [Animalia: Trochilidae ].

NOTE: specimens mentioned by Colwell (1986a: 408) as Rhinoseius spinosus (nomen nudum) were identified as R. phaethornis by OConnor et al. (1997: 16).
