Gracilaria flabelliformis (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Fredericq & Gurgel

Thallus fleshy, reddish-brown, greenish or pinkish, 2–18 cm long, with flattened axes in cross section, 250–310 μm x 900–1070 μm in diameter. Main axes and branches branching dichotomous, pseudodichotomous, trichotomous or irregularly, with smooth surfaces, rounded or blunt apices ( Fig. 42 View FIGURES 39–50. 39–41 ). Pseudoparenchymatous organization, with an abrupt transition between medulla and cortex ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 39–50. 39–41 ). Medulla with four layers of rounded cells, 30–90 μm x 90–270 μm in diameter. Subcortex with one or two layers of spherical cells, 18–24 μm in diameter. Cortex with a layer of spherical cells, deeply pigmented, 10–15 μm in diameter.
