Thallus elastic, cartilaginous, graceful, pinkish red, 12–16 cm long, with cylindrical axes in cross section, 510–730 μm in diameter. Main axes with scattered slight constrictions, branching irregularly and in some portions of the stem subalternately; branches markedly constricted at the base, with smooth surfaces ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 28–38. 28–29 ). Pseudoparenchymatous organization, with an abrupt transition between medulla and cortex ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 28–38. 28–29 ). Medulla with 7–8 layers of polygonal cells, 50–140 μm x 60-180 μm in diameter, with a markedly thickened cell wall. Subcortex with one layer of spherical cells, 10–15 μm in diameter. Cortex with one layer of rounded cells, 4–6 μm in diameter.
