Thallus fleshy, reddish-purple, 6–14 cm in length, with cylindrical axes in cross section, 530–620 μm in diameter. Main axes branching alternate or irregular; branches with small short laterals wart-like, in spiral, smooth margins and depressed apices ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 17–27. 17 ). Polysiphonous organization, with 2 pericentral cells, 50–60 μm in diameter, of smaller diameter than the medullary cells ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 17–27. 17 ). Medulla with 4–5 layers of rounded cells, 30–75 μm in diameter. Cortex with one layer of rounded and pigmented cells, 10–15 μm in length ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 17–27. 17 ).
