One ♁ syntype with labels: “ Lactista gibbosus S., Calif.” [handwritten in pencil on white paper]; “ Lactista gibbosus Sauss. ” [handwritten on green paper]; “ Lactista gibbosa Sauss.” [handwritten on brown paper]; “ Syntypus ” [printed on red paper]. Specimen set with wings spread; the right antenna, right front leg, right middle leg and left hind leg are lost. Otte (1984: 323) refers to this specimen as the type, but the original description treats ♁ and ♀ characters without nominating a holotype. Box V19.
