Diagnosis.—Ventral margin of epandrium straight or convex ( Fig. 67 View FIGURES 67–70 , 77 View FIGURES 77–80 , 86 View FIGURES 86–88 ); neohypandrium band-like, strongly deflected. postgonite lobate, proximal margin slightly convex; distal process triangular, sometimes bifurcate, ventral process long and narrow; aedeagus with ventral process, in dorsal view oval, in lateral view ventral margin broadly oval; distal margin of the dorsal aedeagal opening broadly incised with lateral processes; phallapodeme in lateral view ( Figs. 44 View FIGURES 42–44 , 55 View FIGURES 53–55 , 63 View FIGURES 61–63 , 70 View FIGURES 67–70 ) mostly arcuate deflected, in dorsal view generally with broad proximal extension and lateral process variously developed.
Nearctic species included in the mesogramma group are: Scatophila adamsi Cresson , S. hesperia Sturtevant and Wheeler , S. mesogramma (Loew) , S. iowana Wheeler , S. ordinaria Sturtevant and Wheeler , and S. viridella Sturtevant and Wheeler.
