Quedius Stephens, 1829 View in CoL
Quedius Stephens 1829: 214 View in CoL ; Smetana 1971a, b, 1973, 1976, 1981, 1990 (North American fauna, all present members of Quediini treated as Quedius View in CoL ); Solodovnikov 2006 (removed taxa to Afroquedius Solodovnikov View in CoL ); Solodovnikov and Schomann 2009 (some Quedius View in CoL moved to Philonthina View in CoL ); Brunke and Solodovnikov 2013 (reinstated Quedionuchus Sharp View in CoL as genus; Quedius lineipennis Cameron View in CoL to Alesiella Brunke and Solodovnikov View in CoL ); Smetana 2013 (Velleius Leach as subgenus of Quedius View in CoL ); Smetana 2015a, b (several species removed to Quemetopon Smetana View in CoL and Queskallion Smetana View in CoL ).
Diagnosis and Comments. In North America, Quediini (sensu Żyła and Solodovnikov 2020; former Quediina ) in its current composition contains only two
genera: Quedius and Quedionuchus ( Brunke et al. 2020) . Nearctic members of the genus can be distinguished from Quedionuchus by the elytra with punctures evenly distributed or in disorganized rows (few punctures in linear rows in Quedionuchus ). A comprehensive generic revision is in preparation by the lead author and collaborators.
