Evinus macrospinus Lu View in CoL , sp. n.

(Figs. 1–2)

Description. Length (including tegmen). Male: 3.9–4.0mm; Female: 4.2–4.3mm.

Pale to yellowish brown. Head and thorax marked with dark brown including several small paired symmetrically placed spots on vertex and anteriorly on pronotum. Forewings brownish hyaline, with brown markings on corium and some additional scattered brown spots. Abdomen dark brown, pygophore yellowish.

Head narrower than pronotum; vertex longer medially than next eyes with anterior margin angularly rounded; ocelli near anterior margin slightly closer to midline than corresponding eye. Apex of clypellus slightly concave or straight; lateral frontal sutures approaching anterior margin of vertex between ocelli and eyes. Pronotum broad, 1.5 times length of vertex, anterior margin convex, posterior margin angularly concave medially; lateral margins long, carinate. Scutellum with extremity of transverse depression slightly bent upward. Forewing with two subapical cells; claval veins separated from each other throughout their length, cross vein between A1 and claval suture basally, appendix moderately broad. Fore femur with well developed intercalary row and AM1 and AV1 setae; fore tibia with 1+1 setae on dorsal surface apically. Hind femoral setal formula 2+2+1. Second sternal apodemes elongate, extending to near midlength of third segment; third pair short and broad, similar in length to second.

MALE GENITALIA: Pygophore in lateral aspect tall in basal half, thereafter abruptly tapering caudally; ventrally firmly attached to valve; numerous microsetae in caudal region. Tenth segment membranous. Subgenital plate short and broad, not reaching apex of pygophore, posterior margin broadly rounded, with group of long stout setae from apex to midlength and a few long fine setae at apex; lateral lobe triangular-shaped, very long, directed dorsally; smaller triangular-shaped lobe on inner margin projecting dorsally. Style slender, with apical process digitate, turned laterally; lateral lobe obtusely angled, not produced distally; basal articulating arm long. Connective elongate, linear, articulating with aedeagus. Aedeagus with shaft elongate dorsoventrally compressed basally, slightly curved dorsally and tapered to apex in lateral view, bottle-shaped in dorsal view.

FIGURE 1. Evinus macrospinus sp. n. A, B, dorsal and lateral habitus (male); C, face (male); D, forewing; E, G, head and thorax, dorsal and lateral view; F, face; H, apex of fore tibia, dorsal view; I, hindwing; J, fore tibia, ventral view; K, fore femur, anterior view; L, 2nd and 3rd valvulae, lateral view; M, enlarged apex of 2nd valvula, lateral view; N, O, 1st valvula (complete and enlarged apex), lateral view.

FEMALE GENITALIA: Seventh sternite with hind margin slightly concave. First valvulae with dorsal sculpture granulose, not reaching dorsal margin; apicoventral granulose area present. Second valvulae gradually expanded from midlength to near apex, thereafter tapered to acute apex, without teeth. Third valvulae slightly longer than pygofer, without macrosetae.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE: male, China, Yunnan Prov., Mt. Diancangshan, 2173m, 5.viii.2005, Coll. Li Meng ( NWAFU). PARATYPES: 3 males, 5 females, same date as holotype; 2 males, 6 females, same data as holotype except 4.viii.2005 ( NWAFU & BMNH).

Remarks. This species has the dorsal lobe of the subgenital plates extended to the dorsal margin of the pygophore, which together with other characters (see key) differentiates this species from E. graminicolus and E. peri .

Etymology. The species name “ macrospinus ” refers to the modified subgenital plates which have an enlarged triangular-shaped lobe directed dorsally.
