Host. Araliaceae : Aralia nudicaulis L. Spencer (1969) also listed A. racemosa L. as a host but did not cite reared specimens or even empty leaf mines to support this record.

Leaf mine. ( Fig. 178 View FIGURES 171–179 ) Upper surface, whitish to pale green; long and linear mine, widening to 2.5–3 mm by the end, with frass in fine, scattered black grains.

Puparium. Dark grayish-brown to black; formed outside the mine, sometimes loosely attached to the upper leaf surface near the exit slit ( Fig. 178 View FIGURES 171–179 ).

Distribution. USA: *MA, MT; Canada: AB, QC (empty leaf mines only). Photographs posted to www.BugGuide.net show leaf mines from IA, ME, NH, NY, VT, ON, and SK.
