Cosmoconus nigriventris belongs to the species group with a darker first tergite, only the posterior third is orange. The dorsolateral carinae of this first tergite are either absent behind the spiracles or indistinct. The males have their flagellum entirely dark ventrally. The second tarsal segment of the hind tarsus is at least 1.2× as long as the fifth tarsal segment. Several common Tenthredo spp. (Symphyta: Tenthredinidae ) are known hosts ( KASPARYAN & TOLKANITZ, 1981). First report for the Netherlands; unreported in Belgium.
