Comment. In the course of a study of Turkish Aleocharini , the original description of Aleochara scheerpeltziana Fagel was examined. Despite the rather poor quality of the illustration of the aedeagus in the description, it was immediately evident that it doubtlessly referred to a species of the subgenus Thliboptera Thomson, 1859 of the genus Oxypoda ; however, the drawing was insufficient to allow an interpretation at the species level. The original description is based on type material from " Liban: Kartaba" ( Fagel 1968), a holotype in the Fagel collection and three paratypes in the Fagel and the Scheerpeltz collections. Since a loan from the museum in Brussels, where the Fagel collection is housed, is currently not possible due to a lack of staff (Desender, pers. comm.), a loan of the type material in the NHMW was requested. Harald Schillhammer (pers. comm.) informed me that the Scheerpeltz collection contained one specimen that could possibly be a paratype of the species in question, but was not labelled as such. An examination of this specimen eventually revealed that it is, without doubt, a paratype and that, despite the sex label "Ψ", it is fortunately a male. The aedeagus is identical to that of the recently described O. micantoides ; hence the synonymy proposed above.
In central southern Anatolia, this species is apparently the most common representative of the subgenus; its distribution is mapped by Assing (2006a).
