Type: Dominican Republic. Prov. Pacificador, Quita Espuela , vic. San Francisco de Macoris , 900 m, 7 Apr 1922, W. Abbott 2073 (holotype, US [ US- 1079509 , barcode US0027429] ; isotype, NY [NY00111371]).

Distribution. Known only from the eastern portion of the island of Hispaniola (collections only seen from the Dominican Republic) growing in forests from 300-1300 m elevation.

Representative specimen. Dominican Republic, Prov. Samana, Salazar & al. 1309 (JBSD).

Of the two syntypes cited in the original description (Eggers 1608, Eggers 2208), only Eggers 2208 was cited by Urban as being fertile; the Kew duplicate ( Fig. 5a View Fig ) of this collection is therefore the most appropriate choice for a lectotype.
