Omocerus (Nebroma) humerosus (Spaeth, 1913) View in CoL ( Figs. 37–38 View Figs )
Nebroma humerosa Spaeth 1913a: 148 .
Type Localities. “ Jatahy in der Provinz Goyaz [ Brazil: Goiás: Jata´ı]; San Paulo [ Brazil: S~ ao Paulo ]” .
Type Specimens Examined. Syntype: pinned, “ Coll. E. Ross | Berlin. N 113 [b, t, cb] || Coll. | Donckier [w, t, cb] || Cotype [r, t, cb] || humerosa
[hw] | m. cotypus [hw] | det. Spaeth [w, t, cb] || Jatahy | ( GOYAZ) [g, t, cb] || Nebroma | humerosa | 22.) Spaeth. | S. Paulo. [b, hw, s, bf] || ZMH 823526 [w, bf, sf]” ( ZMH).
Current Status. Valid species.
Remarks. Spaeth (1913a) described this species based on numerous specimens. He labeled one specimen as the type and the others as cotypes.
However, this was not mentioned in the original description, and therefore all specimens are syntypes. We have studied the type series deposited in the MM, and it is consistent. There is, therefore, no need for a lectotype designation .
Omocerus (s. str.) cupreus ( Wagener, 1881) ( Figs. 39–40 View Figs )
Tauroma cuprea Wagener 1881: 30 .
Type Localities. “ Columbia , Venezuela ” .
Type Specimens Examined. Syntype: pinned, “ Coll. E. Ross | Berlin. N 113 [g, t, cb] || coll. Wagener [t, w, cb] || cotyp.! [hw by Spaeth, w, cb] || Tauroma | v. cuprea Wag | Spaeth det. [t & hw, w, cb] || Valencia | Venezuela [t, g, cb, sic! added subsequently] || Tauroma | eximia Boh. | ab. cuprea Wgr. | 21.) Venezuela. [hw, g, bf, cb] || ZMH 824670 View Materials [w, bf, sf]” ( ZMH) .
Current Status. Synonym of Omocerus (s. str.) taurus (Fabricius, 1787) .
Remarks. Wagener (1881) described this taxon based on numerous syntypes (“einer grossen Reihe von Stücken meiner Sammlung”). Wagener’ s collection was purchased by Spaeth, who ( Spaeth 1914b) also downgraded the status of O. cupreus to an aberration of O. taurus . The coloration of the latter species is extremely variable, and O. cupreus was described because of the cupreous ventral side of the body.
The ZMH specimen has the original labels provided by Spaeth, and therefore there is no doubt that it is part of the type series. The green locality label was subsequently added, as it is not present in other syntypes; also, the locality Valencia was never associated with any of the syntypes.
