Distribution. Western Atlantic—Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Brazil (Alagoas, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) (Bracken-Grissom et al. 2014; Bracken-Grissom & Felder 2014).

Remarks. According to Bracken-Grissom et al. (2014), A. platycheirus belongs to the A. floridanus complex; our material matches A. platycheirus . The 16S sequence that we used was the same used by Bracken-Grissom et al. (2014) in the molecular phylogeny composition of the A. floridanus complex. Such sequence was obtained from the batch CCDB 3888, from Ubatuba, São Paulo. Both molecular phylogenies (concatenated dataset and 16S gene) proposed by Bracken-Grissom et al. (2014) suggested a genetic/geographic structure within A. platycheirus that separated the specimens of the northern Gulf of Mexico from the others (the Caribbean Sea, southeast Gulf of Mexico, and Brazil). This structure needs a more refined study for clarification since the specimen from Ubatuba and the syntype had an undefined position.
