Alpheus paracrinitus Miers, 1881: 365 View in CoL , pl. 16, fig. 6.

Material examined. Brazil, São Paulo: 1 ♂, 2 ♀ ov, CCDB 6302 View Materials , Ubatuba, Ilha Vitória , coll. A. Castilho et al., x.2015 ; 1 ni, MZUSP 28302 View Materials , Arquipélago de Alcatrazes , Ponto 1, Costa Sul, Portinho, coll. L.R. Simone et al., 04.xii.2012 .

Distribution. Western Atlantic—Bermuda, West Indies, Panama, Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Trindade and Martim Vaz islands, Paraíba, Espírito Santo). Central Atlantic—Ascension Island. Eastern Atlantic—Cape Verde to Gulf of Guinea, Angola. Eastern and Indo-West Pacific ( Crosnier & Forest 1966; Chace 1972, 1988; Banner & Banner 1982; Kim & Abele 1988; Manning & Chace 1990; Christoffersen 1998; Anker et al. 2016—all references as A. paracrinitus ).

Previous records. None.

Remarks. According to Knowlton & Mills (1992) and Anker (2001), specimens identified as A. paracrinitus correspond to a species complex. The material recorded herein represents the southern limit of the distribution of this complex in the western Atlantic region. Based on the live color pattern, currently there are two different morphs of this complex in Brazil (see Almeida et al. 2012a; Soledade & Almeida 2013). Since we have no information regarding the live color of our specimens, it is not possible to assign them to any form. Until the complex review is finished, all Brazilian records should be assigned to A. cf. paracrinitus ( Almeida et al. 2012a; Soledade & Almeida 2013).
