Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina) to Brazil (Amapá to Rio Grande do Sul). Eastern Atlantic—Cape Verde, Senegal to Nigeria ( Crosnier & Forest 1966; Christoffersen 1998; Coelho et al. 2006; Pachelle et al. 2016 —all references as A. evermanni ).

Previous records. São Sebastião ( Dworschak & Coelho 1999, as A. evermanni ; Amaral et al. 2010, as A. evermanni ); no material provided ( Coelho & Ramos 1972, as Automate sp. A; Christoffersen 1998, as A. evermanni ).

Remarks. Specimens identified as A. evermanni might also belong to a species complex (A. Anker pers. comm.). Until a review of the species is carried out, all Brazilian records should be assigned to A. cf. evermanni .
