Description. Male. Head and mesosoma black; metasoma dark castaneous. Mandible with two apical teeth; median clypeal lobe undefined, median tooth rounded; frons coriaceous, punctate; eyes weakly setose. Notauli complete; pronotal disc strongly coriaceous. Metasomal tergite II with tergal process with one pair of conspicuous lateral depressions, tubercle present, pit on top and tuft of setae, thick and conspicuous bristles on the border of each depression. Posterior hypopygeal margin straight. Genitalia: paramere with pointed apex, wide, S-shaped, higher than the basiparamere; aedeagal ventral ramus shorter than dorsal body, apex weakly rounded, small projection, laminar; aedeagal dorsal body with two pair of apical lobes, outer lobe long, divergent, apex weakly bifurcated, inner pair membranous; basal process absent; apodeme extending beyond genital ring. Female unknown.
Variations. Paramere very arched or slightly arched.
Remarks. This species does not fit any other species-group by having the metasomal tergite II with tergal process with one pair of conspicuous lateral depressions, the tubercle present, with a pit on top and tuft of setae, thick and conspicuous bristles on the border of each depression, and the paramere with pointed apex, wide, Sshaped.

Etymology. The epithet mapinguari from Tupi refers to a legendary creature described as being covered in a long hair red, living in the Amazon forest of Brazil and Bolivia. Treat as a noun in apposition.
Distribution. Brazil (Piauí and Maranhão).
