Dissomphalus plaumanni Evans, 1964: 47 , 52, 58–59 (♂, holotype from Brazil).

Diagnosis. Male. Head black, mesosoma nearly black. Mandible with four apical teeth. Median clypeal lobe trapezoidal. Frons coriaceous, punctures large, shallow. Vertex slightly convex, rounded corner. T2 with pair of rounded lateral depressions, each one with tubercles, tuft of hairs directed back- and inward, anterior margin of depression, some hairs. Genitalia: paramere very wide; cuspis thick; digitus rounded dorsal expansion; aedeagal ventral ramus laminar, surface horizontal, very short, as short as basiparamere, wide, apex acute; aedeagal dorsal body with pair of apical lobes, laminar, wide, rounded apex in lateral view, compressed in dorsal view, inner surface stout, membranous and setose; genital triangular. Female unknown.

Variations. In this series the specimens are quite similar to those previously studied.

Remarks. This species was previously known from Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, Ecuador, Peru ( Azevedo, 1999c), Brazil ( Evans, 1964), Brazil (Amazonas, Pará, Maranhão, Acre, Rondônia, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, and Santa Catarina) ( Azevedo 1999c), Brazil (Espírito Santo) ( Redighieri & Azevedo 2004), Brazil (Sergipe, Alagoas, and Bahia) ( Redighieri & Azevedo 2006), and Bolivia ( Azevedo 1999c). Now it is recorded for the first time from Piauí and more males are found in Maranhão.
