Rhadamanthus urantherus Dyer (1934 View in CoL : t. 3247)
Type (lectotype, here designated):— SOUTH AFRICA. Cape Province, Oudtshoorn Div., 1932, cult. Kew flw. 29 March 1933, leaves 11 October 1933, bulbs growing among stones 1 mile E of Oudtshoorn, W. Barker 933/32 ( K, bar code 000257230!: the bulb with two inflorescences and the two unconnected inflorescences placed on the central part of the sheet and gathered on 29 March 1933, excluding the bulb with leaves, the leaves attached to a bulb neck and the leaves kept in an envelope).
In the protologue of Rhadamanthus urantherus , the type was indicated as follows: “ Miss W. Barker (Type). Specimens cultivated at Kew under the number 933/32”. Moreover, the label of the type “specimen” at K ( K, bar code 000257230!) includes further information: “1932, cult. Kew flw. 29.3.33, leaves 11.10.33”. It bears two half bulbs, most probably one bulb split into two, with two inflorescences lacking leaves, two unconnected inflorescences, a bulb with leaves, and leaves attached to a bulb neck. It is evident therefore that the leaves and flowers in the sheet, with their respective bulbs, were gathered at different times, in accordance with the label data. However, the name is validly published since it was described prior to 1 January 1958. This sheet was later considered as the “ holotype ” by Nordenstam (1970), a qualification corroborated by a label on the sheet dated 1969. Nonetheless, as the sheet comprises two different gatherings, i.e. two specimens, both are in fact syntypes and a lectotype must be designated. We select here the flowerbearing fragments in the central part of the sheet K 000257230 as the lectotype of that name, excluding the leafy bulb, the leafy bulb neck and the envelope with leaves.
