Decticus verrucivorus latipennis ssp. n.

Material examined. Holoype. Male, China: Hebei: Weichang: Bashang area, 42°34′781″N, 117°21′023″NE, 1529m, 2003.IX.21, Coll. Liu Chunxiang; Paratypes, 1 male, China: Heilongjiang: Wudalianchi Geopark , 1971. VII.14, Coll. unkown.

Diagnosis. Male. Large-sized. Tegmen aspect ratio about 3.54 ( Fig. 5b ). Lateral lobe of pronotum approximately black, with yellowish brown ventral and posterior margins. Fore and middle leg nigger-brown; hind femur dark brown with yellow ventral margins.

Description. Male (holotype). Lateral lobe of pronotum as high as wide. Tegmen exceeding abdominal apex, with narrow and sharp apices. Stridulatory file with about 73–76 pegs, gradually becoming smaller towards both ends ( Fig. 6d ). Fore and middle femora without spines; fore and middle tibiae with numerous spines on both margins. Hind femora with 2–4 small spines on inter ventro-anterior margin. Tenth abdominal tergum with approximately rectangular central concavity on dorsal surface. Epiproct tongue-shaped, covered by tenth abdominal tergum and bent down at an angle of 90° at base. Cercus branched in middle. Subgenital plate with a shallow obtuse-angle incision ( Fig. 4i & n ).

Colour. Generally brown. Face pale yellow, tinged with cyan spots. Disc of pronotum yellowish brown. Tegmen brown with dark spots.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Inner Mongolia and Hebei).

Etymology. The species name latipennis is a combination of the Latin “lata” and “penn”, indicating broad tegmen.
