Diagnosis. Fruit flies of this genus are characterised by the presence of dorsoapically pointed first flagellomere with long plumose arista, head higher than long, wing pattern banded, sometimes diffuse apically; bands yellow to brown with yellow or orange-yellow patches; transverse band from cell sc enclosing r-m crossvein. Midtibia with 1 apical spine. Male with abdominal tergum II enlarged, expanded over sides of tergum III. Female with 2 spermathecae, comprised of tightly set coils ( Hancock and Drew, 1999)
