The species was incorrectly synonymized with Z. calochroma by Metcalf (1963a).

The species ranges from Mexico ( Sanborn 2006a), Guatemala ( Sanborn 2006b), and Costa Rica ( Duffels & van der Laan 1985) into South America ( Metcalf 1963a). Mexican specimens were collected in Chiapas and Veracruz ( Sanborn 2006a).
