( figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 –6)

Type material. — Holotype male: “ MEXICO: Colima, vic. El Terrero , 4 Oct. 1992, R. Turnbow ” ( UGCA). Paratype male: same data ( AFSC).

Etymology. The species is named for its small size relative to the other members of the genus.

Description.

Coloration.—Ground color green ( fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).

Head ( fig. 2 View FIGURE 1 ).—About as wide as mesonotum. Epicranial suture, fronto-clypeal suture, central sulcus of frons testaceous. Margin of supra-antennal plate, posterior border of medial ocellus, medial border of lateral ocelli, spot lateral to lateral ocellus in depression of vertex, and spot medial and posterior to medial angle of eye and lateral and posterior to vertex depression fuscus . Transverse fuscus band across anterior margin of postclypeus. Small parallel fuscus line ventral to transverse band beginning at level of supra-antennal plate extending approximately halfway to postclypeal midline. Central ventral spot and lateral postclypeus tinged with testaceous in paratype. Anterior lorum testaceous, fuscus mark extending from middle of lorum anteclypeus junction to lateral junction with postclypeus just anterior to postclypeal angle. Posterior margin of anteclypeus testaceous, paratype with additional medial testaceous spot. Mentum testaceous. Distal labium testaceous, tip fuscus .

Thorax ( fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).—Testaceous tinge to anterior pronotal margin. Paramedian and lateral fissures testaceous. Testaceous tinge between posterior termini of fissures and between posterior terminus of lateral fissure and lateral angle of pronotal collar anterior to pronotal collar. Lateral angle of pronotal collar expanded, rounded. Submedian sigilla of mesonotum testaceoous. Lateral sigilla tinged with testaceous. Anterior border, posterior half of anterior arm, a line connecting anterior arm to posterior border extending laterally along posterior border of cruciform elevation about half its length testaceous, central portion, medial posterior and anterior borders green. Basistermnum 2 and 3, katepisternum 2, meron 2, episternum 2 and 3, anepimeron 2, epimeral lobe and trochantin 2 and 3 testaceous.

Legs.—Green marked with testaceous.

Tegmina and wings ( fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).—Hyaline. Tegmina with eight apical cells. Left tegmina of holotype with seven apical cells due to missing median vein 1. Venation of tegmina green proximally, turning testaceous past node. Majority of cubitus posterior + anal vein 1 and anal vein 2 + 3 testaceous. Wings with six apical cells. Venation of wings green proximally, testaceous in distal half. Plaga and margins and along anal veins 2 and 3 grayish.

Operculum (fig. 4).—Male operculum green tinged with testaceous, remnant of epimeron 3 testaceous. Operculum just reaching anterior margin of abdominal sternite II, rounded posteriorly and medially. Opercula well separated along midline reaching medially to distal portion of hind leg trochanter. Meracanthus green tinged with testaceous, one tip marked with fuscus in holotype.

Abdomen ( fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).—Dorsal abdomen green, tinged with testaceous centrally and laterally. Testaceous markings darker in paratype. Tergite 7 posteromedian border with fuscus mark. Four testaceous spots across anterior border of tergite 8. Timbal covers green exposing timbal ventrally and medially, not reaching operculum laterally. Ventral abdomen testaceous, fuscus marks on lateral sternites and medial epipleuites and hypopleurites V–VII. Sternite VII edged with fuscus expanding on posterior surface of sternite. Only sternite VII marked with fuscus in paratype. Sternite VIII testaceous marked with fuscus anteriorly and on posterior edge.

Male genitalia (figs. 5, 6).—Pygofer testaceous centally and along margin, green laterally. Dorsal beak extending to level of distal shoulder, tip fuscus . Anal styles testaceous, edged in fuscus . Proximal uncus testaceous, median uncus lobe greenish testaceous. Median uncus lobes arching, notched at tip. Aedeagus tawny, expanding at terminus.

Measurements (in mm).— Males (n=2), mean (with range) given for available specimens. Length of body: 17.84 (17.76–17.92); length of fore wing: 25.00 (25.00–25.00); width of fore wing: 7.49 (7.48–7.50); length of head: 2.40 (2.40–2.40); width of head including eyes: 6.36 (6.32–6.40); width of pronotum including suprahumeral plates: 8.27 (8.24–8.30); width of mesonotum: 5.91 (5.90–5.92).

Notes. —This species is the smallest of the Odopoea Stål species in Mexico. Odopoea signoreti Stål , O. diriangani Distant and O. azteca Distant are also reported from Mexico ( Metcalf 1963a). The Mexican species differ from the other Odopoea in that they possess immaculate tegmina and wings. Odopoea minuta can be separated easily from these species by its small size (other species have body length greater than 22 mm) and lack of thoracic markings.
