Holotype male, Tanzania, Mt Hanang , disturbed montane forest, 2000–2300 m, May 2006. Depository MfN.
Paratypes. 1 female, same data as holotype; Depository MfN.
Further paratype material: 1 male, 1 female, 2 nymphs, same data as holotype . 1 female, Bereku Forest Reserve , 1600 m, March 2015. Collection C. Hemp.
Description. Male. General body shape and colour: Flightless, small, uniformly light yellowish-green. Behind eyes two lateral yellow lines, which continue along the whole length of pronotum. Eyes brown-reddish. Tegmina abbreviated, uniformly green. Head and antennae: Fastigium of vertex smooth conical, fastigium of the vertex about half the size of first antennal segment. Antennae thin, longer than body length and whitish. Eyes circular, prominent. Cuticle of pronotum shiny without hairs on surface, but with short hairs along pronotal margins. Tegmina shortened, tectiform with reduced venation. Stridulatory area hidden under pronotum. Alae reduced to slender lobes covered by elytra. Thorax and legs: Fore and mid tibiae with open tympanum, with 4 outer and 4 inner spines, apical with a minute pair of spurs. Abdomen: Last abdominal tergite broad, medially broadly incurved with central gap or incision ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 D). Measurements
males (n = 2)
Body length 11.0–11.5 Median length of pronotum 4.5–4.7
Length of hind femur 7.5–8.0
Visible median length of elytra 2.5
females (n = 2)
Body length 11.5–12.0 Median length of pronotum 4.0–4.2
Length of hind femur 8.2–9.0
Visible median length of elytra 2.5–2.7
Length of ovipositor 9.3–9.5 Habitat. Herb layer in montane forest clearings and along forest edges.
Distribution. Tanzania, Mt Hanang and Bereku Forest Reserve.
Diagnosis. An Amytta species with shortened tegmina. Similar to A. meruensis n. sp. and A. abbreviata but distinguished from A. abbreviata by a smaller and differently shaped median gap in the posterior margin of the last abdominal tergite (compare Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 D and E) and from A meruensis n. sp. by differently shaped male cerci (compare Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C and D). Also see Diagnosis at A. meruensis n. sp.
Etymology. Named after Mt Hanang on which this species was first collected.
