Mahanarva (Ipiranga) takiyae Paladini & Cavichioli , sp. nov.

( Figs 1–12 View FIGURES 1 – 12 )

Measurements (range in mm males / females): Body length: 8.09.0 / 8.7–9.1. Length of tegmina: 6.6–7.4 / 7.0–7.6. Width of tegmina: 2.2–2.5 / 2.4–2.7. Maximum width of head including eyes: 1.6–1.8 / 1.84–2.0. Width between humeral angles: 2.4–2.9 / 2.7–3.0.

Description. Holotype. Head black, wider than long; eyes brownish, rounded and arranged transversely; vertex smooth, rectangular, slightly elevated between ocelli, lacking a median carina; ocelli brownish, closer to each other than to eyes, situated in middle of imaginary line that pass through eyes; tylus smooth and rectangular; antennae black, pedicel sparsely setose, basal body of flagellum subcylindrical, with single arista smaller than pedicel; postclypeus black, inflated, convex in profile with one longitudinal carina prominent and strongly marked, lateral grooves strongly marked; rostrum black, extending to base of mesocoxae. Thorax brownish; pronotum black, hexagonal with a median carina slightly marked, anterior margin straight, lateral-anterior margins straight, lateral posterior margin slightly sinuous, posterior margin grooved; scutellum yellowish with slight central concavity, lacking horizontal grooves; tegmina black with three orange spots: one between basal and median third of tegmina, other two parallel located in apical third, apical reticulation developed; hind wings hyaline with brown venation, vein Cu1 not thickened at base; legs brownish, metathoracic tibia with two lateral spines (basal spine smaller in size than spines in apical crown; apical spine larger than spines in apical crown); apical crown of spines on tibia consisting of two rows; basitarsus with three rows of spines covered by long setae; subungueal process present and triangular. Abdomen brownish.

Male genitalia. Pygofer brownish with one finger-like process between anal tube and subgenital plates, which are long with a spine at apex ( Figs 3, 4 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ), paramere subrectangular, dorsal margin with a set of short and strong setae, dorsal process developed and rounded, one subapical, hook-like spine ( Fig.7 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ); aedeagus subcylindrical with one pair of long and slender anterior processes ( Figs 5, 6 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ).

Female genitalia. External morphology similar to male. Ovipositor with first valvula long and slender with acute apex and one basal process spoon-shaped, rounded, directed downward ( Figs 8–10 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ); second valvula long ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ), with apical third of dorsal margin serrate ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ); third valvula short and wide, with long ventral setae ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ).

Remarks. The color pattern of this species is unique within the subgenus. Most species of Mahanarva (Ipiranga) have transversal or longitudinal bands on the tegmina while M. takiyae has four distinct yellow spots on each tegmen and no bands. The male pygofer and subgenital plates resemble those of M. vitatta . The paramere shape is unique. The aedeagus resembles those of M. fortunata and M. integra with a slender shaft and long dorsal processes. Aedeagus shape is very similar among species across the subgenus ( Figs 5, 6 View FIGURES 1 – 12 , 32–37 View FIGURES 26 – 40 ), showing variation only in the length of the dorsal processes and the thickness of the shaft.

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Dr. Daniela Maeda Takija in recognition of her contributions to the systematics of Auchenorrhyncha.

Distribution. Brasilia, Distrito Federal.

Type material examined. Holotype Male: Brasilia, Distrito Federal, II.1965 J.A.P. Dutra leg. (MN-UFRJ). Paratypes: 5 males, 7 females and one specimen without abdomen: same data as holotype (1 male and 1 female DZUP, 4 males and 6 females MN-UFRJ); 2 males and 2 females: Brazil. Brasilia, Distrito Federal, XII.1961 H.S. Lopes leg. ( CEIOC).
