( Figs. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 10 , 14–17 View FIGURES 14 – 17 )
Chauliodes bowringi McLachlan, 1867: 260 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Forewings with intercostal area densely spotted at base; hindwings with broad median transverse band. Aedeagus slightly curved to right in ventral view, with middle portion strongly inflated in lateral view.
Description. Forewing length 26–29 mm, hindwing length 22–33 mm.
Head dark, with clypeus pale yellow. Compound eyes brown, ocelli yellow with black inner margin. Antenna black. Mouthparts pale yellow; mandible tip dark.
Thorax dark brown; meso and metanotum each with pale brown center stripe. Legs dark with short, dense, brown setae; tarsal claws reddish brown. Wings subhyaline with brown marks; pterostigma pale yellow. Forewing with scattered brown spots; basal intercostal area with spots denser and darker, and with diffuse spots forming bands before and behind pterostigma; median transverse band extending from C to R4. Hindwing similarly marked except for basal half entirely hyaline; median transverse band wider, longer, and denser than that on forewing, extending from C to Cu. Veins pale brown except for those on brown marks, which are darker. Rs 5branched with R2 2branched; 3 crossveins between R1 and Rs; M 2branched; 1A 2branched.
Abdomen dark. Male tenth tergum ( Figs. 14, 16 View FIGURES 14 – 17 ) in lateral view semicircular with straight dorsal margin; in dorsal view its apex slightly inflated. Aedeagus ( Figs. 14 –15 View FIGURES 14 – 17 ) strongly sclerotized, narrow and elongate, in ventral view apical half strongly narrowing and slightly curved to right; in lateral view middle portion strongly inflated dorsally with apex slightly upcurved. Female eighth sternum broad with posterior margin strongly prominent; tenth tergum ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 17 ) digitiform with pointed tip, directed caudally; gonapophyses ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 17 ) directed dorsally, subquadrate with round tip.

Distribution. China (Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hainan, Hongkong, Hunan, Jiangxi, Shannxi); Vietnam.
Remarks. This species seems to be closely related to N. orientalis Yang &Yang from Yunnan in having the basal costal area of the forewings densely marked with dark brown, but can be easily distinguished from it by the broad median transverse band of the hindwing. In N. orientalis , the band is rather narrow and shortened.
