Diagnosis. Head usually black. Pronotum yellowish brown. Wings densely marked brown. Aedeagus in lateral view spoonlike.

Description. Forewing length 31–39 mm, hindwing length 28–35 mm.

Head dark, with clypeus yellow. Compound eyes dark, ocelli pale yellow with black inner margin. Antenna dark. Mouthparts yellow; maxillary palpus and labial palpus with tips dark, mandible with apical half reddish brown.

Pronotum yellowish brown with pair of darker vittae; meso and metanota dark with lighter center stripe. Legs brownish, with short, dense, yellowish brown setae; tibiae and tarsi dark, tarsal claws reddish brown. Wings hyaline, densely marked brown; pterostigma pale yellow. Forewing with a small spot on basal intercostal area and with one long and one short stripe before and after pterostigma; basal third of wing with several small spots and 3–4 large spots; median transverse band diffuse and composed of several spots from C to Cu; apical margin with several marks along longitudinal veins and more or less connected with each other. Hindwing similarly marked, but basal half mostly hyaline, median transverse band subquadrate, extending from C to Cu. Veins pale brown except for costal crossveins dark. Rs 5branched, R2 apically 3branched, R3 and R4 curved backward at tip; 3 crossveins between R1 and Rs; M 2branched; 1A 2branched.

Abdomen dark. Male tenth tergum ( Figs. 36, 38 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ) in lateral view subquadrate; in dorsal view apex strongly inflated. Aedeagus ( Figs. 36–37 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ) strongly sclerotized, in ventral view subquadrate, slightly narrowing toward apex; in lateral view spoonshaped. Female eighth sternum subtrapezoidal ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ) with posterior margin apparently prominent; tenth tergum digitiform with pointed tip; gonapophyses, short and broad with acute tip posteriorly directed.

Etymology. The specific epithet nigris refers to the entirely black head of the new species.

Distribution. China (Fujian Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang).

Remarks. The new species seems to be closely related to N. rotundatus Tjder and N. sinensis in having the similar aedeagus with the apex somewhat inflated in lateral view, but can be easily distinguished from the black head, more complicated wing pattern and broad gonapophyses with the tip acutely produced. In N. rotundatus , the median transverse band is much lighter and cloudy ( Tjeder, 1937). In N. sinensis , the gonapophyses is subtrapezoidal with the tip rounded ( Kimmins, 1954).
