Hybos divisus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 45–48 View FIGURES 45–48 , 250 View FIGURES 242–250 )

Type material. HOLOTYPE ♂: THAILAND, Phetchabun Province, Nam Nao National Park , Pine forest/ Sambon 1, 16°42.47'N, 101°35.26'E, 872 m, 5–12.iv.2007, Malaise trap, Leng Janteab [ T4948 ] ( QSBG). GoogleMaps PARATYPES: 3♂, same data as holotype ( NMWC, QSBG).

Etymology. From the Latin divisus = division, in reference to the apically divided male hypandrium.

Diagnosis. A species with thorax black (although scutellum is yellow at its base) and legs dirty brownish yellow. The hind femora are strongly spinose, yellowish at base becoming black distally, the trochanters are yellow and do not contrast with the bases of adjacent femora and the mid tibia has two very strong bristles dorsally. The antennal stylus is subplumose and the abdomen has tergite 1 laterally and sternite 1 entirely black.

Description. Male: length 3.5–3.8 mm. Head subshining black; face yellowish black below. Postocular setae black, longish hairs on lower occiput mostly dark with a few pale hairs admixed. Antenna black, postpedicel ovate in lateral view, ~2.5–3X long as wide; stylus ~5X long as postpedicel, black, subplumose with lateral hairs hardly longer than stylus is deep, bare and narrower on distal 0.1–0.15. Mouthparts blackish, palpus very narrow, with short fine seta near tip. Thorax with ground colour black, postalar callus laterally and extreme base of scutellum yellowish. Scutum subshining; dusted greyish, more strongly so on prescutellar area. Thoracic chaetotaxy damaged in type specimens but acr and dc small and fine; 2 npl, and 1 pa strong; position of origin of one probably strong presutural dc and 2 sct discernable. Legs mostly dirty brownish yellow (all trochanters, F 1, F 2, T 2 and T 3 obviously yellowish) with distal tarsal segments and coxae dusky, T 1 yellowish to blackish, F 3 yellow at base becoming gradually brownish black distally. Coxae with mostly pale hairs, legs otherwise with stronger setae black. F 1 with ventral hairs weak, no longer than limb is deep. F 2 very slightly distorted, weakly concave in front about 0.3 from base, all setae small and fine. F 3 moderately inflated, widest 0.6–0.7 from base; viewed laterally lower margin almost linear, upper margin convex; ventral spines comprising ~25 long bristles (mostly as long or longer than limb is deep) arranged in 2 rows on proximal 0.8–0.9, becoming uniserial apically where shorter; pv fringe with 4–5 stronger black bristles on distal 0.4 becoming shorter and yellowish on proximal 0.6; 3–4 distinct, somewhat curved, proclinate bristles anteriorly on distal 0.5. T 1 with distinct bristle dorsally at 0.5–0.6 from base; 1 long, somewhat curved ad distinct in apical circlet. T 2 with strong bristles 0.5–0.7X long as limb dorsally at ~0.2 and 0.5 from base and ventrally at 0.5; apical circlet strong with 1 av ~0.7X long as MT2. T 3 slightly inflated distally, 1 distinct bristle dorsally at 0.6, 3 distinct apical setae. MT 1 and MT 2 with distinct ventrobasal bristle; MT 2 with slightly shorter ventral bristle at 0.5 and 2 strong apicals; MT 3 with 2–3 distinct spinose setae admixed with finer hairs ventrally. Wing membrane tinged brown, veins brownish; stigma distinct, greyish, reaching costa throughout distance between end of R 1 and R 2+3. Squamae with pale hairs. Halter white. Abdomen subshining, brownish black, dusted greyish. Tergites 1 and 2 with long yellowish and brownish bristles on posterior margin laterally, becoming much shorter on distal segments; sternites with somewhat shorter hairs on posterior margin, hardly shorter on distal segments. Terminalia ( Figs 45–48 View FIGURES 45–48 ) globoid, black, with blackish setae; right epandrial lamella ( Fig. 45 View FIGURES 45–48 ) with small protuberant anteroapical process; left epandrial lamella with rather irregular inner margin; left surstylus with apex bent, internally directed, distinct digitiform process directed internally near base; right surstylus ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 45–48 ) elongate, rather broad basally; hypandrium ( Figs 46, 47 View FIGURES 45–48 ) broadly and deeply bilobed, both lobes strongly inwardly curved, left lobe narrow, with several apical bristles. Female. Unknown.

Comment. Hybos divisus sp. nov. most resembles H. yungjak sp. nov. in having predominantly dirty yellowish legs and strongly spinose hind femora. In H. divisus sp. nov., however, the hind femora femur becomes progressively darker toward its tip, the trochanters are yellow and do not contrast with the bases of adjacent femora and tergite, and sternite 1 is entirely black. Additionally, H. yungjak sp. nov. has only one strong dorsal bristle on the mid tibia whereas there are two in H. divisus sp. nov. Very dark males of H. aceriformis sp. nov. somewhat resemble H. divisus sp. nov. but abundant differences in morphology of the terminalia readily enable separation of these two species in such cases. Hybos divisus sp. nov. is only known from Pinus forest at 872 m in the Petchabun Mountains ( Fig. 250 View FIGURES 242–250 ). All specimens were captured in early March.
