ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Tricogena truquii Rondani, 1856 .

TYPE SPECIES: Tricogena truquii Rondani, 1856 [= Tachina rubricosa Meigen, 1824 ], by original designation.

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Herting (1993: 110) ].

FAMILY: RHINOPHORIDAE .

REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1856): Tricogena (page 88) and Tricogenia (page 225). By subsequent usage (ICZN Code Article 24.2.4), Rondani (1868d: 579, 580) acted as First Reviser and selected Tricogena as the correct original spelling. Neave (1950: 276) also selected Tricogena as the correct original spelling, but this was later. Although Herting (1993: 110) gave the method of type fixation for Tricogena in Rondani (1856: 88) as by original designation, he listed the type species as dating from Rondani (1862d: 157). This is incorrect. The characters in Rondani (1856: 88) that make the genus-group name available serve to also make available Tricogena truquii as the singly included species.
