589. Winthemya Rondani, 1859b: 103 .
CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Winthemia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ; junior synonym of Winthemia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . New synonymy.
FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .
REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work.
590. Xiloteja Rondani, 1863: 9 [ 1864a: 9].
CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Xylotaeja Rondani, 1845 ; junior synonym of Myolepta Newman, 1838 . New synonymy.
FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .
REMARKS: This is one of two original spellings (the other is Xyloteia, page 99) in Rondani (1863), both of which are eligible as emendations by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” (Xiloteja) or “j” to “i” (Xyloteia) in the same work; however, as both names are used for the same taxon ( Xylotaeja Rondani, 1845 ), they cannot both be emendations. Acting as First Reviser, we select Xiloteja as the correct original spelling, which relegates Xyloteia (q. v.) to unavailable name status. Xylotaeja Rondani, 1845 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Myolepta Newman, 1838 [ teste Peck (1988: 139) ].
[Xista] Rondani, 1856: 82 [ 1862d: 31, 32, 239].
CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Xysta Meigen, 1824 .
FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .
REMARKS: The earliest mention of Xysta Meigen, 1824 using the spelling “ Xista ” that we have found in this study is in Boitard (1843: 414), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1856) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1856) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
