ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Tachina melanocephala Meigen, 1824 (with Phyto palpalis Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830, Novia cylindrica Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 and Phyto “ Nigra? (faem)” Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830 in synonymy).

TYPE SPECIES: Tachina melanocephala Meigen, 1824 , by monotypy .

CURRENT STATUS: Preoccupied by Blumenbach, 1795; junior synonym of Phyto Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Herting (1993: 107) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Scatomyza Fallén, 1810 ; junior synonym of Scathophaga Meigen, 1803 . New synonymy.

FAMILY: SCATHOPHAGIDAE .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work. Scatomyza Fallén, 1810 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Scathophaga Meigen, 1803 [ teste Gorodkov (1986: 29) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Scathophaga Meigen, 1803 .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Scathophaga Meigen, 1803 using the spelling “ Scatophaga ” that we have found in this study is in Fabricius (1805: 203), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1844c) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “th” to “t” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1844c) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
