TYPE SPECIES: Idia fasciata Meigen, 1826 , automatic [by designation of the same species (by monotypy) for Idia Meigen, 1826 ].

CURRENT STATUS: New replacement name for Idia Meigen, 1826 ; valid genus [ teste Schumann (1986: 56) ].

FAMILY: RHINIIDAE .

REMARKS: Although Schumann (1986: 56) indicated that this replacement name was for “ Idia Meigen in Wiedemann, 1820”, Rondani (1861e: 9) was clearly replacing Meigen’s (1826) proposal of the name by stating “ Idia Mgn. 1826 ”.

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Stomoxys Geoffroy, 1762 View in CoL or subsequent usage of Stomoxis Latreille, 1797 .

FAMILY: MUSCIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Stomoxys Geoffroy, 1762 using the spelling “ Stomoxis ” that we have found in this study is Stomoxis Latreille (1797: 161) , n. syn., as an unjustified emendation made available by similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work.
