CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Rhynchosia Macquart, 1847 ; junior synonym of Aphria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . New synonymy.

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “ch” to “c” in the same work. Rhynchosia Macquart, 1847 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Aphria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 336) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Rhingia Scopoli, 1763 View in CoL .
FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .
REMARKS: The earliest mention of Rhingia Scopoli, 1763 using the spelling “ Rhyngia ” that we have found in this study is in Trost (1801: 70), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1845a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1845a) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
