REMARKS: This spelling appeared earlier in Bigot (1854: 461) as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1861a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1861a) as an incorrect subsequent spelling. Two other spellings in Rondani (1861a), Ozyrhinchus (q. v.) and Ozirhyncus (q. v.) (both on page 291), are respectively an unjustified emendation and an incorrect subsequent spelling.

REMARKS: Criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Rondani (1846). In Rondani (1861a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1861a) as an incorrect subsequent spelling. Rondani (1861e: 8) wrote “pro [for] Oxyrhyncus R. 1856 – pone [put] Ozirhyncus R. 1840”, which we interpret as a clear instruction to the reader to replace the 1856 spelling with the 1840 one regardless of the fact that he wrote Ozirhyncus instead of Ozirhincus .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “i” to “y” in the same work. Two other spellings in Rondani (1861a), Ozirhynchus (q. v.) on page 288 and Ozirhyncus (q. v.) on page 291, appeared in earlier works as incorrect subsequent spellings [e.g., the former in Bigot (1854: 461) and the latter in Rondani (1846: 372)] and are therefore not eligible as emendations.
