323. Meroplius Rondani, 1874c: 4 View in CoL View at ENA , 9.
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Meroplius melitensis Rondani, 1874 ; Meroplius schembrii Rondani, 1874 (as “ Schembrii n.”); Nemopoda stercoraria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (as “ Nemopoda Stercoraria Macq. ”); Sepsis falleni Staeger, 1844 (as “ Fallenii Staeg.”); Sepsis lucidus Staeger, 1844 .
TYPE SPECIES: Nemopoda stercoraria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (as “ Nemopoda Stercoraria Macq. ”), by original designation.
CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Rozkošný & Elberg (1984: 156) ].
FAMILY: SEPSIDAE .
REMARKS: Previous listings of the type species have it as a junior synonym of Sepsis minutus Wiedemann, 1830 , but this is incorrect. Robineau-Desvoidy’s 1830 paper came out 6 June while Wiedemann’s 1830 paper came out four months later on 1 September [see Evenhuis et al. (2010b) for dating of the former and Evenhuis (1997: 821) for dating of the latter]. Therefore, the valid name for the type species is Nemopoda stercoraria Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 .
