REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work. Ocyptera Latreille, 1804 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Cylindromyia Meigen, 1803 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 426) ].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Ochtiphila Fallén, 1823 .

FAMILY: CHAMAEMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Ochtiphila Fallén, 1823 using the spelling “ Octiphila ” that we have found in this study is in Dufour (1854: 311), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1875) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “ch” to “c” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1875) as an incorrect subsequent spelling. Ochtiphila Fallén, 1823 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Chamaemyia Meigen, 1803 [ teste Tanasijtshuk (1984: 222) ].

In later works by Rondani (1856, 1863, 1864a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “myia” to “mya” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in these later Rondani works as an incorrect subsequent spelling.

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Odontomyia Meigen, 1803 .

REMARKS: This is one of two spellings (the other is Odonthomya , page 170) in Rondani (1856), both of which are variant spellings of Odontomyia Meigen, 1803 . Odonthomya (q. v.) is an incorrect subsequent spelling in Rondani (1845l) and maintains that status in Rondani (1856). Odontomya would be eligible as an unjustified emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “myia” to “mya” in the same work, but as Rondani (1856) provided two different spellings his treatment of the name is ambiguous. We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
