TYPE SPECIES: Istoglossa puella Rondani, 1856 , by original designation .

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Clausicella Rondani, 1856 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 345) ].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .

REMARKS: Although Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 345) gave the method of type fixation for Istoglossa in Rondani (1856: 77) as by original designation, they listed the type species as dating from Rondani (1861e: 104). This is incorrect. The characters in Rondani (1856: 77) that make the genus-group name available serve to also make available Istoglossa puella as the singly included species. Verrall in Scudder (1882: 164) listed the spelling Histoglossa and this was cited as an emendation by Bezzi & Stein (1907: 393, “ em. Scudd.”), but criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Scudder (1882). Histoglossa Verrall, 1882 is thus an unavailable name, new status.
