ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Istocheta frontosa Rondani, 1859 (as “Sp. Typ. nova Frontalis Mihi ”).

TYPE SPECIES: Istocheta frontosa Rondani, 1859 (as “Sp. Typ. nova Frontalis Mihi ”) [= Phorocera cinerea Macquart, 1850 ], by original designation.

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 154) ].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .

REMARKS: Two original spellings were used for the type species in Rondani (1859): frontalis (page 157) and frontosa (page 171). Herting (1984: 24), by indicating “ frontalis ” as a nomen nudum and adopting frontosa as an available name, is here interpreted as having acted as First Reviser and selected frontosa as the correct original spelling. Verrall in Scudder (1882: 164) listed the spelling Histochaeta and this was cited as an emendation by Bezzi & Stein (1907: 358, “ em. Verr. ap. Scudd. 1882”), but criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Scudder (1882). Histochaeta Verrall, 1882 is thus an unavailable name, new status. “ Histochaeta ” of Brauer & Bergenstamm (1891: 141; 1893: 105) and Bezzi & Stein (1907: 358) was based on a misidentification and used in the sense of Thelymorpha Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889 .
