TYPE SPECIES: Tipula flavescens Meigen, 1804 , automatic [by designation of the same species (by original designation) for Limnoea Rondani, 1856 ].
CURRENT STATUS: Unnecessary new replacement name for Limnoea Rondani, 1856 (as “ Limnaea ”); junior synonym of Erioptera Meigen, 1803 [ teste Savchenko et al. (1992: 252) ].
FAMILY: LIMONIIDAE .
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 11) mistakenly thought that his Limnoea Rondani, 1856 (misspelled in the 1861e work as “ Limnaea ”) was preoccupied in Mollusca by Limnea Sowerby, 1840 .
