scientific name

Marsillia Rondani, 1861e: 116
status

308. Marsillia Rondani, 1861e: 116 .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Marsillia collina Rondani, 1861 ; Marsillia vallina Rondani, 1861 .

TYPE SPECIES: Marsillia collina Rondani, 1861 [= Tricoliga nova Rondani, 1859 ], by subsequent designation ( Townsend, 1916: 7).

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Tricoliga Rondani, 1859 (as a subgenus of Exorista Meigen, 1803 ) [ teste Herting (1984: 7 ; as “ Tricholyga ”)].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .

REMARKS: Herting (1984: 7) treated Marsillia Rondani, 1861 as a junior synonym of Tricoliga Rondani, 1859 (as “ Tricholyga ”) and recognized the latter as a subgenus of Exorista Meigen, 1803 . Although Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993) recognized subgenera of Exorista , they placed all junior synonyms of the genus under the main genus header (including Marsillia , page 119). They placed the type species of Marsillia in the subgenus Tricoliga (as “ Thrycolyga ”) (page 124). Verrall in Scudder (1882: 202) listed the spelling Marsilia and this was cited as an emendation by Bezzi & Stein (1907: 426, “ emend. Scudd.”), but criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Scudder (1882).

EMENDATIONS: Marsilia Bezzi & Stein, 1907: 426 (unjustified), n. syn.
