CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Compsilura Bouché, 1834 [ teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 170 ; as “ Machaeraea ”)].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE .

Remarks: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1859b): Machaeraea (pages 156, 159) and Macherea (page 239). By subsequent usage (ICZN Code Article 24.2.4), Rondani (1862b: 10) acted as First Reviser and selected Macherea as the correct original spelling. The names “ Machaira ” ( Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889: 91) and “ Machaera ” (Mik, 1890: 155) listed by Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 170) as emendations for Macherea Rondani, 1859 (as “ Machaeraea ”) are not. These publications have been checked and the criteria for making these names available as emendations of Macherea (or even “ Machaeraea ”) were not found to be fulfilled; thus, they are incorrect subsequent spellings. Machaira Brauer & Bergenstamm, 1889 and Machaera Mik, 1890 are thus unavailable names, new status.
