ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Silvius vulpes Wiedemann, 1828 ; Silvius esenbeckii Wiedemann, 1830 (in synonymy with Esenbeckia pangonina Rondani, 1863 ).
TYPE SPECIES: Silvius vulpes Wiedemann, 1828 , by original designation .
CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Fairchild & Burger (1994: 20) ].
FAMILY: TABANIDAE .
REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1863): Esenbeckia (pages 83, 95) and Esenbekia (page 83). Acting as First Reviser, we select Esenbeckia as the correct original spelling, which relegates Esenbekia (q. v.) to unavailable name status.
