scientific name

Ceratoxys Rondani, 1861e: 10
status

83. Ceratoxys Rondani, 1861e: 10 .

TYPE SPECIES: Otites elegans Latreille, 1805 (as “ Oscinis elegans Latreille ”) [= Musca formosa Panzer, 1798 ], automatic [by designation of the same species (by subsequent designation of Coquillett, 1910: 565) for Meckelia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ].

CURRENT STATUS: New replacement name for Meckelia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ; junior synonym of Otites Latreille, 1804 . New synonymy.

FAMILY: ULIDIIDAE .

REMARKS: The correct name for the type species of Meckelia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 has recently been clarified [see Evenhuis et al. (2010b: 105) for details] and is actually Musca formosa Panzer, 1798 , which puts the genus-group name in synonymy with Otites Latreille, 1804 unlike previous treatments that have it in synonymy with Ceroxys Macquart, 1835 .

EMENDATIONS: Ceratoxia Costa, 1866: 34 (unjustified), n. syn.
