110. Chorisops Rondani, 1856: 173 View in CoL View at ENA .
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Beris tibialis Meigen, 1820 .
TYPE SPECIES: Beris tibialis Meigen, 1820 , by monotypy .
CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Woodley (2001: 67) ].
FAMILY: STRATIOMYIDAE .
REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1856): Chorisops (page 173) and Chorisosps (unpaginated errata). However, Rondani also explicitly indicated in his errata that his Chorisops was an error for Actina Meigen, 1804 (as “ Actina Walk :”), which we take to mean that Rondani changed his mind about the name of the genus-group taxon containing Beris tibialis Meigen, 1820 , finally deciding to include this species within the nominal genus Actina Meigen, 1804 . The name Chorisops —including its orthographic variant Chorisosps —clearly was not considered the valid name of a taxon by Rondani (1856). Rondani’s name Chorisops was subsequently mentioned by Loew (1858: 339) and is here still considered invalid, while Rondani’s (1863: 88) use of Chorisops as valid fulfills the requirements for availability by subsequent usage before 1961, with authorship dating from its first publication (ICZN Code Article 11.6.1) and type species being the nominal species first directly associated with it (ICZN Code Article 67.12). As only one species ( Beris tibialis Meigen, 1820 ) was originally associated with Chorisops , this species is the type species by monotypy. Note that Rondani (1863) is not deemed to have acted as First Reviser, as there was no issue of precedence because Chorisops and Chorisosps were not originally available.
EMENDATIONS: Chlorisops Szilády, 1932: 12 (unjustified).
