TYPE SPECIES: Pangonia appendiculata Macquart, 1837 [= Tabanus aethiopicus Thunberg, 1789 ], by subsequent designation ( Coquillett, 1910: 528).

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Philoliche Wiedemann, 1820 [ teste Chainey & Oldroyd (1980: 289) ].

[Corthophila] Rondani, 1843c: 158 [ 1866b: 8; 1867a: 92].

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Chortophila Macquart, 1835 .

FAMILY: ANTHOMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: Criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in Rondani (1843c). In later works by Rondani (1866b, 1867a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “ch” to “c” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in later works as an incorrect subsequent spelling.
