ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Anthrax jacchus Fabricius, 1805 (as “ Anthrax Jaccus Fabr. ”).

TYPE SPECIES: Anthrax jacchus Fabricius, 1805 (as “ Anthrax Jaccus Fabr. ”), by original designation.

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Exoprosopa Macquart, 1840 [ teste Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 347) ].

FAMILY: BOMBYLIIDAE .

REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1856): Argyrospila (page 162) and Argyrospyla (page 202). By subsequent usage (ICZN Code Article 24.2.4), Rondani (1863: 56) acted as First Reviser and selected Argyrospila as the correct original spelling.

CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Asynapta Loew, 1850 .

FAMILY: CECIDOMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: The earliest mention of Asynapta Loew, 1850 using the spelling “ Asinapta ” that we have found in this study is in Winnertz (1853: 199), as an incorrect subsequent spelling. In Rondani (1861a) this is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Rondani (1861a) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.

CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Asphondylia Loew, 1850 ; junior synonym of Asphondylia Loew, 1850 . New synonymy.

FAMILY: CECIDOMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “y” to “i” in the same work.
