CURRENT STATUS: Unjustified emendation of Coelomyia Haliday, 1840 ; junior synonym of Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . New synonymy.
FAMILY: FANNIIDAE .
REMARKS: Name made available as an emendation by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “oe” to “ae” in the same work. Coelomyia Haliday, 1840 is currently treated as a junior synonym of Fannia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [ teste Pont (1986a: 43) ].
[ Caelopa ] Rondani, 1866b: 47, 49 [1867a: 131, 133].
CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Coelopa Meigen, 1830 View in CoL .
FAMILY: COELOPIDAE .
REMARKS: Criteria for making this name available as an emendation were not found to be fulfilled in these works. Although Rondani (1866b) gave both the original ( Coelopa , index page 51) and the changed ( Caelopa , main text pages 47, 49) spellings, there is no indication that “the latter is adopted in place of the former” (ICZN Code Article 33.2.1).
[ Caenosia ] Rondani, 1866a: 75, 76, 186, 193 [1877c: 246].
CURRENT STATUS: Incorrect subsequent spelling of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 View in CoL or subsequent usage of Caenosia Westwood, 1840 .
FAMILY: MUSCIDAE .
REMARKS: The earliest mention of Coenosia Meigen, 1826 using the spelling “ Caenosia ” that we have found in this study is Caenosia Westwood (1840: 144) , n. syn., as an unjustified emendation made available by similar spelling changes in two or more names from “oe” to “ae” in the same work.
