ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Cecidomyia decorata Winnertz, 1853 (as “ Cec. Decorata. Wurtz.”).

TYPE SPECIES: Cecidomyia decorata Winnertz, 1853 (as “ Cec. Decorata. Wurtz.”) [preoccupied by Cecidomyia decorata Loew, 1850 ; = Cecidomyia decorata Loew, 1850 ], by original designation.

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Gagné (2004: 94) ].

FAMILY: CECIDOMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: Originally proposed as a subgenus of Diplosis Loew, 1850 . Gagné (2004: 94) and predecessors (e.g., Kieffer, 1904: 385; Coquillett, 1910: 516; Kieffer, 1913: 165; Foote, 1965: 280; Skuhravá, 1986: 228; Evenhuis, 1994: 178) indicated that the type species by original designation was Cecidomyia decorata Loew, 1850 . This is incorrect because Loew’s species was not originally included. Cecidomyia decorata Winnertz, 1853 is the type species by original designation as was correctly indicated by Felt (1918: 141).
