3. Achanthipodus Rondani, 1856: 201 .
ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Dolichopus regalis Meigen, 1824 (as “ Dolicopus Regalis Meig. ”).
TYPE SPECIES: Dolichopus regalis Meigen, 1824 (as “ Dolicopus Regalis Meig. ”), by original designation.
CURRENT STATUS: Nomen oblitum; senior (but invalid) synonym of Poecilobothrus Mik, 1878 [ teste Brooks (2005: 102) ].
FAMILY: DOLICHOPODIDAE .
REMARKS: There are two original spellings of this genus-group name in Rondani (1856): Achanthipodus (page 201) and Achantipodus (page 144). Both names were used again by Rondani (1861e): Achanthipodus (page 6) and Achantipodus (page 163). Acting as First Reviser, Negrobov (1991: 82) selected Achanthipodus as the correct original spelling. Achanthipodus Rondani, 1856 had not been used as the valid name for a genus since 1899, thus Brooks (2005: 102) invoked Article 23.9.1 of the ICZN Code and declared Achanthipodus Rondani, 1856 as a nomen oblitum and Poecilobothrus Mik, 1878 as a nomen protectum.
EMENDATIONS: Acanthipodus Bigot, 1890: 266 (unjustified), n. syn.; Acanthipodus Kertész, 1909b: 233 (unjustified).
